Blood Spill Kit

A blood spill in a classroom, on a bus, or across a workshop floor has to be contained and cleaned without exposing anyone to infection. This single-use kit packs the apron, gloves, mask, solidifier, and disinfectant needed to deal with one spill safely, in a compact box that stores in a cupboard or under a counter until it's needed.

The kit works in a set order. You solidify the spill with the Red Z sachet so it can be lifted rather than smeared, protect yourself with the apron, gloves, and surgical mask, wipe down the area with the disinfectant sachet and chux cloths, then seal the waste in the disposable box and lid. A printed instruction card walks a first-time user through each step, which matters when the person dealing with the spill is a teacher or a driver rather than a trained cleaner.

The box measures 6cm high by 12cm wide by 17.5cm deep, so it fits where you need it without taking over a shelf. Everything inside is single-use, so once a spill is dealt with the whole kit is replaced and there's no question of cross-contamination from reused gear.

Usage

Keep the kit somewhere reachable from where spills are most likely, a sick bay, a bus cab, a workshop bench. When you need it, follow the printed instructions: solidify first, put on the apron, gloves, and mask before you touch anything, decontaminate with the disinfectant and cloths, then seal the waste in the box. Replace the whole kit afterward so the next spill is covered.

Care and storage

Store the sealed kit at room temperature, out of direct heat and sunlight. Check the disinfectant sachet's expiry as part of a regular first aid stock check and replace the kit if it has been opened or used.
