Chest Seals

Chest Seals

A penetrating chest wound from a stabbing, an impalement, or a workplace projectile can let air into the chest cavity and collapse a lung, which is why an occlusive chest seal belongs in any trauma response kit. A chest seal forms an airtight cover over the wound, and vented designs also let trapped air escape so pressure doesn't build inside the chest.

The Asherman Chest Seal is a vented occlusive dressing made for this use, with a one-way valve that releases air while keeping the wound sealed. For a wound with both an entry and an exit point, plan for more than one seal.

A chest seal works as part of a full trauma response, not on its own. Keep it alongside tourniquets and haemostatic gauze in a complete bleed control kit, or build a station-ready pack from the trauma rescue kits range. The clinical background sits in our wound care and injury guidance hub.

Always read the instructions for use.
