Premax Original Massage Cream 400g (1)

Premax Original Massage Cream is a firm-resistance cream, suited to deep tissue and myofascial work through the fascia, the connective tissue under the skin, where you need the skin to move under the hand rather than slide away from it. One 400g tub is supplied.

Premax describes it as a premium massage cream with a firm resistance, a fresh scent and a non-greasy texture. Premax's selection guide sets out why: the Original carries a higher percentage of waxes and clay, so it allows the therapist to traction the skin with myofascial and forearm or elbow techniques.

Where it sits in the Premax range

Premax publishes a resistance or glide rating on most of its massage cream and lotion pages, alongside the ingredients and the type of massage each one suits. Three of them are worth putting beside the Original:

Premax calls the Premax Massage Lotion 1 Litre, which it names the Classic Massage Lotion, its highest-glide product, and it is unscented. The Premax Essential Massage Cream 400g and the Activate cream are both rated medium resistance. The Original is the one Premax describes as firm resistance.

Composition

On the pack, Premax highlights peppermint, lavender and magnesium, plus olive oil, coconut oil, vitamin E and aloe vera. The ingredient list gives the magnesium as magnesium sulfate. It also contains lanolin wax and sweet almond oil (Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis), worth knowing for a client with a known lanolin sensitivity or nut allergy.

How to use

• Our note: for external use, on intact skin.
• Dispense 1 to 2 fingertips for small areas, and 3 to 4 for medium or large areas.
• At the end of the treatment only a very thin film of cream should remain. Wipe the treated area with a towel.

Premax states that its founder Randall Cooper (B.Physio, M.Physio, FACP) is a Specialist Sports Physiotherapist and a Fellow of the Australian College of Physiotherapists, which is the body that awards that specialist title, and that he plays an active role in all its product development.
