A deep or heavily draining wound needs a dressing that draws fluid up and away from the wound bed and holds it there. Hydrofiber dressings do exactly that: the fibres turn to a soft gel on contact with exudate, locking it in rather than letting it spread sideways onto healthy skin.
This makes them a common choice for cavity wounds, surgical wounds, and chronic ulcers under review. FAD stocks Aquacel Extra and Aquacel Rope from Convatec, Exufiber from Molnlycke, Durafiber from Smith and Nephew, and Urgoclean from Urgo, so the choice comes down to the wound, not the brand on hand.
Hydrofiber is often confused with alginate. Both gel and absorb, but alginate is seaweed-derived and suits heavy exudate with light bleeding; see the alginate dressings range. For straightforward fluid management with a superabsorbent pad, the absorbent dressings range is the simpler option.
Our injury guidance hub covers how to match a dressing to a wound type. The advanced range sits alongside the everyday lines, one account, one invoice.
