A day hike or a multi-day trek can be hours from the nearest help, so the kit you carry has to cover snake bite, a bad cut, a sprain, and a burn from one small bag. This one packs a snake bite bandage with a compression indicator, a trauma haemorrhage-control dressing, a foam aluminium splint, and burn gel into a hard-wearing case with a zip lock and waist belt, so it rides on your hip and stays out of the way.

The contents are chosen for the trail rather than the medicine cabinet. You get a snake bite bandage with a built-in compression indicator so the wrap pressure is right under stress, a 15cm x 18cm trauma and haemorrhage-control dressing for a serious bleed, a foam aluminium splint for a rolled ankle or a fracture, and burn gel plus a burn gel dressing for scalds around the camp stove. Wound dressings, non-adherent dressings, eye pads, saline, gloves, and a CPR face shield round out the smaller injuries.

The bag is a hard-wearing case measuring 21cm x 15cm x 7.5cm with a zip lock closure and a waist belt for hands-free carry. It is ultra-light, so it earns its place in a pack, and the layout keeps the time-critical items findable without unpacking everything.

We design and assemble this kit in-house in Bendigo to meet Australian first aid kit requirements, and we ship it from our East Bendigo warehouse and Sydney fulfilment centre. FAD has been family-owned since 2011, and the team can build a version with extras like added snake bite bandages or burn gel if your trips run long or remote. The same account that carries this kit carries the refill stock, so topping it up after a trip is one order. If you want a hand matching it to where you walk, the team on 03 5443 2239 has handled the range.

Usage

Wear it on the waist belt or clip it where you can reach it without taking your pack off, because the snake bite bandage and the trauma dressing are both time-critical. Learn how the compression-indicator bandage works before you head out, since getting the wrap pressure right matters most when you are rushed. Check the contents before each trip and replace anything used or past its expiry.

Care and storage

Store out of direct heat and sunlight, and dry the case out after a wet trip so the contents stay usable. Replace dressings, burn gel, and any expired items as part of a pre-trip check.

Common questions

Will it handle a snake bite? Yes, it carries a snake bite bandage with a compression indicator, which is the first-response item for a suspected envenomation while you get to help.

Is it light enough for a multi-day pack? Yes, it is built to be ultra-light and rides on the waist belt rather than taking up pack volume.

Can I add my own items? Yes. Speak to the team and we can build a version with extras like added snake bite bandages, burn gel, or personal medication space.

How do I restock it? Order the contents or refill stock through FAD in the one account, so you are not chasing trail items across multiple suppliers.
