Smith & Nephew Bactigras is an open-weave paraffin gauze tulle impregnated with 0.5% chlorhexidine acetate. The loose weave lets viscous exudate pass through to a secondary absorbent layer, and the paraffin coating is designed to reduce adherence to the wound bed. Smith & Nephew states it as a wound contact layer for minor burns, lacerations, abrasions, donor and graft sites, and leg ulcers, where there is a risk of infection. It sits in our impregnated bandages range alongside the other paraffin and tulle gras dressings.

Product features

  • Impregnated with 0.5% chlorhexidine acetate
  • Loose weave lets exudate pass to a secondary dressing

FAD stocks the paraffin and tulle dressing range side by side, so you can match the dressing to the wound rather than the supplier's range, and call 03 5443 2239 if you want a hand choosing. If you are weighing up dressing types, our guide to specialty wound dressings and the wound care and injury guidance page walk through where each one fits.

Smith & Nephew states that Bactigras is principally used on up to 15% of body area for adults, 10% for children, and should not be used in known cases of sensitivity or allergy to chlorhexidine. Always read the instructions for use.
