Empowering Independence: Discover How NDIS Aids Can Transform Daily Living
NDIS aids and equipment cover a long list. Continence consumables. Wound care. PPE. Braces and supports. First aid kits and refills. For participants and support coordinators, the practical question is usually simple. What's available, how do you order it, and who can supply it without making the process harder than it needs to be?
First Aid Distributions has supplied NDIS participants and care providers across Australia since 2011. We dispatch from our East Bendigo warehouse and our Sydney fulfilment centre, family-owned the whole way through. This article runs through what we stock for participants on the NDIS, how funding usually works for these items, and the practical bits of ordering with us.
What "NDIS aids and equipment" usually covers
NDIS aids and equipment are the everyday items and lower-cost assistive products that help participants manage daily living: continence supplies, wound care, PPE, braces and supports, and first aid consumables.
For day-to-day independence at home, school, work, or out and about, the items NDIS participants order most often fall into a few familiar groups:
- Continence consumables, including pads, pants, and bed protection.
- Wound care products, including sterile dressings, gauze, tapes, and antiseptics.
- Personal protective equipment, including gloves, masks, and hand sanitiser.
- Braces and supports for ankle, wrist, knee, back, and elbow.
- First aid kits, refills, and replacement consumables.
These are the everyday items, not the high-cost specialised therapy equipment. They're the ones participants and coordinators reorder regularly.
How NDIS funding usually works for these items
NDIS plans split funding into Core Supports, Capital Supports, and Capacity Building. Most everyday consumables and low-cost aids fall under Core Supports, in the Consumables category. Higher-cost assistive technology usually sits in Capital Supports.
What's covered for any single participant depends on the plan, and the price guide and rules change. Participants and support coordinators should check their plan with their planner, LAC, or coordinator, and refer to the current NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits published by the NDIA. We don't make funding decisions on anyone's behalf, and we leave that conversation to the people with the plan in front of them.
What we can say plainly: our pricing is on the website, on the invoice, and the same for every customer. We don't have a different tier for plan-managed or self-managed accounts.
What we supply for NDIS participants
Our NDIS range sits across the practical categories above.
Continence products run through our Comfort First range of disposable pads and pants, our own continence brand. The range covers light bladder leakage through to overnight protection and bed underlays. Sized for adults, with options for men, women, and unisex fits.
Wound care spans sterile dressings, gauze, hypoallergenic tapes, antiseptic wipes, and silver dressings for slow-healing wounds. Our wound care collection covers a number of sizes and clinical situations, from minor cuts and abrasions through to pressure-area care.
Personal protective equipment and infection control items include nitrile gloves, masks, hand sanitiser, and surface wipes. Stocked at retail and wholesale quantities so support workers and care providers can order in volume.
Braces and supports cover standard sizing across ankle, wrist, knee, lower back, and elbow. Useful for participants recovering from injury or managing chronic joint conditions.
First aid kits and consumables round out the range, from home and car kits through to workplace-grade kits. Refills and standalone consumables are stocked separately, so an existing kit can be topped up without buying a new one.
Why participants and coordinators buy from us
A few reasons our NDIS customers come back:
- Same prices for everyone. No surcharge on plan-managed accounts.
- Free shipping on orders over $139.
- East Bendigo warehouse plus Sydney fulfilment centre. Most metro orders arrive within 1 to 3 business days.
- One invoice per order. Plan-managed coordinators process payment cleanly, without chasing line items.
- Family-owned since 2011. The phone goes to staff who know the products, not a call queue.
Our retail store at 205 Murphy Street, East Bendigo is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. Local participants and carers walk in and pick up. Everyone else gets the same range online.
Choosing the right items for the plan
A few practical points worth knowing before you order.
Fit matters more than people expect, especially with continence products. The right size reduces leaks, skin irritation, and the cost of running out mid-pack. Thirty years in theatre teaches you to get the basics right first. The rest looks after itself. If you're not sure, give us a call with rough measurements and a description of when the product is being used. We'll talk through the options.
Bulk pricing kicks in on larger orders for most consumables, which suits regular reordering. Plan-managed coordinators handling several participants can save real money this way without compromising on product quality.
Stock rotation is the other one. Wound care products and antiseptics have shelf lives. We rotate stock at our warehouses so what we send out has good time on it, but worth checking the dates on anything that's been sitting in a cupboard for a while.
How to order
Three ways to place an order:
- Online at firstaiddistributions.com.au. Pay by card, PayPal, or send the invoice to a plan manager.
- Phone 03 5443 2239 during business hours and we'll process the order with you on the call.
- Email your support coordinator's order details and we'll invoice the plan manager directly.
For support coordinators managing more than one participant, ring us and we'll set up an account that handles all your participants' orders in one place. Repeat orders are quicker that way, and a record of what each participant typically buys means re-ordering doesn't need a fresh quote each time.
Help if you're not sure
If you know what you need, our range is on the website. If you're not sure, ring us. We've been at this a long time, and we'll work it out together. For broader NDIS-related help, our NDIS and disability support hub covers more on how we work with participants, coordinators, and aged care.
