Universal Shears 19cm (1)

The Aero Universal Shears are 19cm bandage shears with a bent stainless steel blade and a rounded plastic guard over the bottom blade. The angle in the blade keeps your hand clear of the patient while the guard slides between the dressing and the skin, so a tight bandage can be cut flat against the limb. One pair is supplied, in a right-handed design.

How the bent blade works

Straight scissors have to be lifted away from the skin to get under a bandage, and that's the point where a tight wrap starts to hurt. The bend sets the cutting edge close to parallel with the limb, and the blunt plastic cover runs underneath the dressing rather than into it.

Which size to choose

19cm is the full-size shear, and it suits a workplace, sports or vehicle kit where bulky wraps and strapping have to be cut. The same pattern in a smaller body, the stainless steel universal shears with plastic tip 15cm, fits a compact kit. For fine dressing work rather than bandage removal, look at the sharp and blunt dressing scissors 12.5cm, and the Lister bandage scissors cover the traditional pattern in 14cm and 18cm.

Clean and dry them after use, store them closed, and replace the pair once the guard is worn or the blades stop meeting cleanly.
