Mepilex Heel Dressing

Molnlycke Mepilex Heel is a soft silicone foam dressing shaped to fit the heel, sized 13cm x 20cm. It suits low to medium exuding wounds, with areas of use including foot ulcers, pressure ulcers and traumatic wounds. The pad is contoured to the shape of the heel, so it sits flush against an awkward, high-movement site.

The dressing is built from an absorbent polyurethane foam pad coated with a Safetac silicone contact layer, backed by a vapour-permeable polyurethane film. Safetac is designed so the dressing does not stick to the wound bed while adhering gently to the surrounding skin, which is intended to make dressing changes less painful and gentler on fragile skin.

The foam absorbs exudate, the fluid that drains from a wound, which is designed to help manage moisture at the wound surface. The shaped fit and gentle silicone adhesion can help the dressing stay in place between changes, which suits the heel.

Good to know

The dressing is supplied sterile: Molnlycke states sterility is guaranteed unless the inner package is damaged or opened before use, so check the pack before applying. It is latex-free. Molnlycke advises Mepilex Heel may be left in place for up to 7 days, but should be changed before it saturates or as your treating clinician directs. How often you change it depends on how much the wound is draining.
