Iodosorb Powder Sachet 3g (1)

Iodosorb is a cadexomer iodine powder for managing chronic, exuding wounds such as leg ulcers, pressure ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers. Each 3g sachet contains 0.9% w/w iodine held in cadexomer beads, and this pack supplies one sachet. Smith & Nephew describes its intended purpose as managing biofilm, reducing bioburden, absorbing exudate, and removing slough and debris from the wound bed.

As the cadexomer beads absorb wound fluid, the iodine is released gradually at the wound surface. Smith & Nephew states the powder absorbs up to seven times its own weight in fluid, which helps manage exudate while keeping the wound bed moist. When the iodine is spent, the powder changes colour, giving a clear visual cue that a dressing change is due.

How to use

Clean the wound and surrounding area with a gentle stream of water or saline, and do not dry the wound surface. Apply the powder to form a layer about 3mm deep that conforms to the shape of the wound, then cover with a suitable secondary dressing as directed in the instructions for use. Discard any powder left in the sachet after application, as it is no longer sterile. Safety

Iodosorb contains 0.9% w/w iodine, which is absorbed at the wound. It carries contraindications, precautions and limits on dose and duration of use, and it is not suitable for every patient or every wound. Smith & Nephew sets these out in full in the product's instructions for use, which should be read before use and followed. Discard any powder left in the sachet after application.
