The Coloplast Comfeel Plus Ulcer Dressing is a hydrocolloid dressing for wounds with low to moderate exudate, the fluid a wound produces. As it takes up that fluid it forms a gel against the wound surface, which holds a moist environment and lifts away without sticking to the wound bed at a dressing change. It sits directly on the wound as a primary dressing.

Key details: hydrocolloid dressing, low to moderate exudate, primary dressing, single dressing per pack, in three sizes (6cm x 4cm, 10cm x 10cm and 15cm x 15cm).

Coloplast lists the dressing for low to moderate exuding wounds, and the hydrocolloid takes up excess fluid as it works, keeping the wound surface moist underneath. Check the manufacturer instructions for use, and a clinician's advice where needed, before choosing a dressing for a specific wound.

The adhesive holds on the dry intact skin around the wound (the periwound skin), so the dressing stays put without secondary tape in most positions, while the gel surface sits against the wound itself. How often it needs changing depends on the wound and how much it is exuding.

To choose a size, measure the wound at its widest points and pick a dressing large enough to cover it with a margin of intact skin around every edge, since the adhesive seals to dry skin rather than to the wound. The 6cm x 4cm suits a small or shallow wound, the 10cm x 10cm a mid-range wound, and the 15cm x 15cm a larger wound bed. Each pack contains a single dressing.

FAD stocks Comfeel Plus alongside competing hydrocolloid and foam dressings, so the choice can be made on the wound rather than one supplier's range. Phone advice is on 03 5443 2239 from people who handle the products, with dispatch from the East Bendigo warehouse and the Sydney fulfilment centre. Carers and facilities going through dressings regularly can reorder by phone or set up an account for repeat supply.
