Bare Medical cohesive bandage in a 7.5cm width, supplied as one roll of 4.7m stretched length. It is a self-adherent wrap that adheres to itself only, so it holds a dressing in place without pins, clips or tape. It suits a home, school or workplace first aid kit, and comes in tan or coloured.

WHAT IT IS USED FOR

Cohesive bandage is a retention bandage: it holds a dressing in place rather than dressing the wound itself. It is also used to cover and protect a dressed area, and to hold a cold pack, a brace or padding in position. It grips itself rather than the skin underneath.

APPLYING IT SAFELY

Wrap it snugly enough to hold the dressing in place, and do not stretch the bandage tight as you wrap. After wrapping, and again every 15 minutes, check the colour, temperature and feeling in the fingers or toes below the bandage. Press a fingernail or toenail: the pink colour should return within a couple of seconds.

Loosen the bandage and re-wrap it more loosely, or hold the dressing in place by hand, if the nail stays white or the limb swells. See your doctor or go to hospital if the fingers or toes turn cold, pale or blue, go numb or tingly, swell, or cannot be moved. Call triple zero (000) if the pain is worse than the injury would explain, or is severe or getting worse.

CHOOSING A WIDTH

The same bandage is stocked in 2.5cm, 5cm, 7.5cm and 10cm widths, all on a 4.7m stretched length. This 7.5cm roll sits in the middle of the range. The 2.5cm width comes in tan only; the other three come in tan or coloured. Rolls are sold individually, so a first aid room or site kit can be restocked in whatever mix of widths it needs.
