Aquacel Ag Extra Wound Dressing (1)

Aquacel Ag Extra is a Convatec silver Hydrofiber dressing for moderately to highly exuding wounds, including wounds at risk of infection. It is a gelling-fibre primary dressing made from sodium carboxymethylcellulose impregnated with 1.2% ionic silver, an antimicrobial agent. The Extra construction stitch-bonds two layers of Hydrofiber Technology, which Convatec describes (in-vitro) as 9 times stronger and 50% more absorbent than the standard Aquacel Ag dressing.

Convatec lists Aquacel Ag Extra for leg ulcers (venous, arterial and mixed aetiology), diabetic foot ulcers, pressure injuries, surgical wounds, traumatic wounds, malignant wounds and partial thickness burns. As the dressing absorbs exudate it forms a gel that holds fluid and helps maintain a moist wound environment. Wear time and use

Convatec advises the dressing can be worn for up to 7 days on standard wounds, and may be left in place for up to 14 days on partial thickness burns, subject to clinical assessment. It is supplied sterile; sterility is guaranteed unless the pouch is damaged or opened before use. Convatec states the dressing should not be used on individuals who are sensitive to, or who have had an allergic reaction to, silver, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, EDTA (ethylenediaminetetra-acetic acid di-sodium salt) or benzethonium chloride. The non-silver Aquacel Extra variant is described by Convatec as not containing latex.
