The LIFEPAK CR2 Essential is a public access defibrillator (AED) built to guide a bystander through a sudden cardiac arrest before paramedics arrive. It is indicated for use on patients one year of age or older who are unresponsive, not breathing normally, and showing no signs of circulation (Physio-Control, LIFEPAK CR2 data sheet). Survival in a cardiac arrest falls quickly for every minute that passes without defibrillation, so an AED that is fast to use and ready to shock matters. The CR2 suits workplaces, schools, sporting clubs and other public sites that need a defibrillator anyone can operate.
cprINSIGHT analysis during CPR
The CR2 uses cprINSIGHT analysis technology, which lets the device analyse the patient's heart rhythm while CPR is being performed (Physio-Control, LIFEPAK CR2 data sheet). This limits pauses in chest compressions during the response. Because the device is pre-charged, the first shock is delivered without a charge delay. With cprINSIGHT enabled, later shocks charge during CPR and are ready at the end of the CPR period.
Adult and paediatric use with child mode
The same electrode pads can be used on both adult and paediatric patients (Physio-Control, LIFEPAK CR2 data sheet). Child mode delivers lower energy levels appropriate for young children without having to change electrodes, which helps in schools, preschools and daycare settings. The device is indicated for patients one year of age or older and is not indicated for patients who are conscious and responsive. Adult defaults are 200J, 300J and 360J (configurable 150 to 360J), and paediatric defaults are 50J, 75J and 90J (configurable 35 to 90J).
Built for standby and everyday sites
A new battery provides device power for four years if installed in a device that is not used, and a replace-battery indicator gives advance warning while operating capacity remains (Physio-Control, LIFEPAK CR2 data sheet). The unit carries an IP55 dust and water resistance rating with electrodes connected and the battery installed. It weighs 2.0 kg and measures 9.7 cm high, 22.6 cm wide and 27.4 cm deep. Electrode pads are replaced every four years or after each patient use.
