Film dressings

Film dressings

Transparent film dressings are thin, adhesive, waterproof sheets that seal a wound while letting you see it without lifting the dressing. They suit shallow wounds, skin tears, IV sites, and use as a secondary cover over a primary dressing.

Because the film is see-through, the wound can be checked at a glance, which is their main advantage. This is different to a hydrocolloid dressing, which is occlusive and forms a gel to hold moisture against the wound for moist healing. Film is a clear barrier for monitoring and protection; hydrocolloid is a sealed, gelling dressing for low to moderate exudate.

We carry Smith and Nephew's Opsite Flexigrid and Opsite Post-Op, 3M's Tegaderm, and Molnlycke's Mepore range, including film-with-pad options for sites that also need a small absorbent pad. For an adhesive dressing with a built-in wound pad, see island dressings, and our injury guidance hub covers matching a dressing to the wound type.

Transparent and waterproof variants run from small IV-site sizes through to larger sheets.

Always read the instructions for use.
