The Iodosorb cadexomer iodine dressing from Smith & Nephew is an absorbent dressing for moderately to heavily exuding chronic wounds, such as leg ulcers, pressure injuries and diabetic ulcers. It is made of cadexomer beads that draw up exudate and release iodine into the wound bed as they swell. As the iodine is released the dressing changes colour, which the instructions for use explain how to read when deciding to change it. Always follow the instructions for use for the wound types and exudate levels it is indicated for.

It is non-adhesive and conforms to the wound, and a single dressing is supplied per pack. Choose the size that fits the wound with a small margin of cover, in 5g, 10g or 17g.

Features

  • Cadexomer iodine: releases iodine as it absorbs wound fluid
  • Absorbent: draws up wound fluid as the beads swell
  • Holds a moist wound environment, which supports the conditions wounds heal in
  • Changes colour as the iodine is released; follow the instructions for use for when to change it
  • Soft, non-adhesive and conformable
  • One dressing supplied per pack
  • Sizes: 5g 6cm x 4cm, 10g 8cm x 6cm, 17g 10cm x 8cm

Choosing a size

The three sizes carry more dressing as the gram weight rises: 5g covers a 6cm x 4cm area, 10g covers 8cm x 6cm and 17g covers 10cm x 8cm. Match the size to the wound, and follow the instructions for use for how to apply it to the wound.

Important

Do not use on patients with documented or suspected iodine sensitivity. Cadexomer iodine releases iodine into the wound, so it carries further cautions and a limit on how much can be used. Check with your health professional before use if you have a thyroid condition, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are using it on a child. Always read and follow the instructions for use, including the directions for how often to change the dressing and the maximum amount to use. If symptoms persist, talk to your health professional.
