Hydrocolloid dressings

Community and aged care nurses managing pressure areas and low-exudate wounds rely on hydrocolloid dressings to hold a moist healing environment in place for days at a time. Hydrocolloids are occlusive.
They form a gel as they absorb fluid, sealing the wound from contamination and supporting moist healing on low to moderate exudate. Left in place, they cut down on dressing changes, which matters when visits are spaced out. FAD carries Convatec's DuoDERM Extra Thin alongside Coloplast's Comfeel Plus and Comfeel Plus Transparent, so the choice follows the wound rather than one brand.
The clear point of difference from a film dressing is the gel: film is a transparent barrier for monitoring, hydrocolloid seals and gels for healing. For higher exudate, step up to a foam dressing. Our wound care and injury guide maps dressing types to wound stages.
