Absorbent dressings

Absorbent dressings

A heavily weeping wound needs a secondary dressing that pulls fluid away from the skin and locks it in, so the periwound stays intact between changes. Superabsorbent dressings do exactly that, drawing high exudate up and away from the wound bed rather than letting it pool.

FAD stocks Hartmann's Zetuvit Plus, Molnlycke's Mextra Superabsorbent, and Convatec's Convamax side by side, so the choice follows the wound and the fit rather than the brand a supplier happens to carry. These are secondary dressings for high-exudate management, and once a wound's drainage settles to a moderate level a foam dressing usually takes over from the superabsorbent pad.

For a gelling primary dressing packed into a cavity, start with alginate dressings; for heavy exudate suited to a fibrous gel, see hydrofiber dressings. Our wound care and injury guidance hub explains how the dressing layers work together.

Call the FAD team on 03 5443 2239 if you need help matching an absorbent dressing to a specific exudate level.

Always read the instructions for use.
